Ride the Roller Coaster

Ride the Roller Coaster

From a dry fall to deep Holidays and now a long dry spell, who knows what the future holds? In general, our persistent weak layer from early fall storms has gone dormant, covered now by 3-5’ of dense snow. Surface conditions are awful consisting of rain crusts, rain runnels, and surface hoar. These new problems will likely plague avalanche headlines for the foreseeable future. As the old adage says “todays surface conditions are tomorrows avalanche problems.”

Reasonable riding conditions can be found in upper elevations that have been sheltered from the elements. Perhaps its even time to breakout the groomer skis for a minute.

Forecasts show a slight disturbance for the tail end of this week. With not much lurking in the near future.

So as the roller coaster rolls on, strap in, and put your hands up for a big splash in February!

On a positive note Ogden Avalanche received an incredible donation from Young Power sports for the 2022 season. Meet the newest member of the team!
